Abstract
Rejecting both uncritical enthusiasm and uncritical dismissal of the Internet's prospects to foster cosmopolitanism sensitive to communal concerns, the author contends that creative combinations of communal life online and communal life offline are only as good as allowed by the variety of features of local, national, and global society.
