Abstract
More than a half century has passed since the first and last use of nuclear weapons in warfare. Thomas C. Schelling suggests that over the years a convention has arisen, one which provides strong evidence that nuclear weapons are under a "curse." It is remarkable that nuclear weapons have not been used for so long. But is it true that there exists a taboo on their use?
