Suggestion and Personalization Algorithm for Reaching Flow State Playing League of Legends (SPARFS)

Abstract

Suggestion and Personalization Algorithm for Reaching Flow State Playing League of Legends (SPARFS) is an algorithm built to help League of Legends (a popular multiplayer online battle arena and team strategy game) players reach a flow state by personalizing game experiences through suggested purchasable items, move suggestions, and other game mechanics. Flow state is a term used to describe the mental state of someone fully immersed in an activity with intense feelings of focus, involvement, and enjoyment throughout the duration of the task. In video games, players reach a flow state when they remain engaged, which is typically achieved when a game matches an appropriate difficulty level and therefore fully engages a player. Through the adaptation and redesign of the TANGENT recommendation engine model, we provide move suggestions and personalized gameplay to a player. SPARFS guides players to discover new strategies and methods of play, letting everyone achieve an optimal environment for player peak enjoyment.
